Sunday Afternoons at Carnegie Hall
Two master solo performers and “one of the most impressive of American string quartets” (New York Times) make Sunday afternoons at Carnegie Hall glorious matinees in the world’s greatest concert hall. Thomas Quasthoff sings Mahler’s Rückert Lieder on an all-Mahler program that also includes the fifth Symphony, which Herbert von Karajan once called “transforming … The fantastic finale almost forces you to hold your breath.” András Schiff concludes his exploration of Beethoven’s piano sonatas, and the Emerson String Quartet premieres a new work by Thomas Adès, whose Asyla brought down the house at Carnegie Hall in 2006.
