CULTURAL EXCHANGE (GRADES 9-12)
The Music of India | The Music of Turkey

The Cultural Exchange program offers the opportunity to connect your classroom to the world. In this yearlong program, students and teachers explore the music and culture of the chosen focus country through sequential lessons and exchange ideas with participants around the world via an online community and two videoconferenced concerts.

The 2008-09 program offers the opportunity to choose between a program focused on the Music of India and one focused on the Music of Turkey.

Application
Thanks to everyone who expressed an interest in this program. All places for the 2008–2009 season have been filled. Application details for 2009–2010 will be posted in spring 2009.

Program Features

Ongoing professional development and individual support
Curriculum resources and study guides
Classroom exchange for teachers and students in New York and the focus country via an online community
Facilitated interaction between teachers in New York City and in the focus country
Videoconferenced teacher workshops
Two concerts at Carnegie Hall, linked to a concert hall in the focus country

Teacher Responsibilities

Attend five mandatory Professional Development Workshops (see dates)
Attend two videoconferenced concerts at Carnegie Hall
Implement the entire Cultural Exchange curriculum
Be available and responsive via e-mail and phone
Collaborate with your teaching partner in the focus country
Be available for contact outside of school hours

Weill Fellows: At the end of the 2008-09 school year, Carnegie Hall will bring the involved teachers from India and Turkey to New York City as Weill Fellows. During their week in New York, visiting teachers and their New York City counterparts will have a unique opportunity to share their cultural knowledge, best teaching practices, and their experiences in this program.

Program Fees

Students: $6 each
Teachers: $25 each

One adult chaperone per 10 children is required at each concert. Chaperones attend the concerts free of charge.
