LaGuardia Performing Arts Center

Dave Douglas Quintet

Two-time Grammy-nominated jazz musician Dave Douglas is arguably the most prolific and original trumpeter-composer of his generation. From his New York base, where he's lived since the mid 1980s, Mr. Douglas has continued to earn lavish national and international acclaim including prizes from such organizations as the New York Jazz Awards, Down Beat, JazzTimes, Jazziz, and the Italian Jazz Critics' Society. Mr. Douglas is currently the artistic director of the Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music at The Banff Centre and the co-founder and director of the Festival of New Trumpet Music, which will celebrate its seventh anniversary in 2009.

This performance includes participants and musical selections from the Weill Music Institute’s Dave Douglas Professional Training Workshop, which brings together 11 young jazz composer-performers from around the world to explore collaboration, composition, and improvisation with Mr. Douglas and guest faculty Uri Caine and Clarence Penn. Over one week, participants work with Mr. Douglas on the creation, rehearsal, and production of original works involving improvisation. Please join us for the culminating Young Artists Concert on February 12 at 7:30 PM in Zankel Hall.
