Weill Fellows Program at Carnegie Hall |
|
In 2001, Carnegie Hall established the Weill Fellows program for musicians, educators, and administrators from different countries to stimulate the exchange of ideas about music, education, and best practices. This year, a select group of teachers from Turkey will spend one week in New York visiting public schools, cultural institutions, and New York City landmarks in order to further their professional development and continue the global dialogue about arts education. The selected teachers are also participants in the Citi Global Encounters and Distance Learning Intensive Programs. Discover!
Learn more about the
Citi Global Encounters Program. Citi Global Encounters integrates global music, history, and cultures into high school social studies and music classrooms locally and abroad. This year's program focuses on Turkey. Creating new awareness through music, participating local teachers attend a Professional Development Workshop at Carnegie Hall, where they receive a Citi Global Encounters Teacher's Guide and supporting materials for classroom use. Teachers in the program can elect to sign up for two Teaching Artist visits in order to reinforce student learning of the curriculum. At the end of the Citi Global Encounters program, local students come to Carnegie Hall for a concert featuring prominent musicians from the region of the world studied that year. In addition, a select group of six to eight New York City classes will participate in the Distance Learning Intensive Program, connecting students in New York to their peers in Istanbul via classroom-based exchanges and an interactive concert utilizing videoconferencing technology.
