A Luncheon to Benefit the Music Education Initiatives of The Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
With Host
and Special Guest Artists
This year, our Discovering Music Luncheon focused on The Weill Music Institute’s Citi Global Encounters program and featured the work of the participating students and teachers. During this year long interdisciplinary educational program, eight New York City high school classrooms partnered with eight classrooms in Istanbul in a distance-learning curriculum that gave everyone involved an opportunity to experience exciting cultural exchanges through music.
Complete with a Turkish-inspired menu, an exciting raffle drawing (in which Paula Zahn was one of the winners!), and a stirring performance by the New York Gypsy All-Stars, this luncheon was certainly the cultural event of the spring season! With the support of the Turkish Cultural Center and the Turkish Consulate General of New York, funds were raised for the music education initiatives of The Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall.
We would like to thank our 2008 Discovering Music Luncheon leadership, which included Honorary Co-Chair Laura H. Pomerantz; Co-Chairs Kim Blank, Kathryn Collins, Susie Davis, Katya Gorbatiouk, and Leslie Maheras; and Vice-Chairs Loryn Kass, Cecilia Vonderheide, and Jennifer Zonis for their dedication, leadership, and enthusiasm. In addition, our event would not have been such a success without the support of our Lead Sponsor Deloitte LLP; Benefactor Sponsors Mr. and Mrs. Sid R. Bass, Mark E. Kingdon, Leslie and Tom Maheras, and Leni and Peter May; and Contributor Sponsors The William and Phyllis Mack Family Foundation and Marybeth and Jay Petschek. The film for this event was made possible through the generous support of Citi.
Please join us next year for yet another beautiful afternoon on top of Rockefeller Center in support of music education!
