Clarinetist David Krakauer and pianist Kathleen Tagg performed brilliantly in From Shtetl to Stage: A Celebration of Yiddish Music and Culture as part of Carnegie Hall’s 2019 festival Migrations: The Making of America. This outstanding duo’s innovative Breath + Hammer program takes classical masterworks and juxtaposes them with folk-based music. Their remarkable technical skills—Krakauer’s improvisatory prowess and Tagg’s ability to play inside the piano to create unique effects—are showcased in music that is both daring and invigorating.
