Music Kitchen’s 15th Anniversary Concert
Thursday, May 21, 2020 7:30 PM Zankel Hall
Music Kitchen–Food for the Soul pioneered chamber music to people nationwide who experience homelessness. To celebrate 15 years of service, Music Kitchen presents Forgotten Voices, a composite song cycle with music by 15 award-winning composers setting incidental texts by homeless-shelter clients. Composed by Courtney Bryan, Jon Grier, Kelly Hall-Tompkins, Gabriel Kahane, James Lee III, Beata Moon, Paul Moravec, Angélica Negrón, Kevin Puts, Steve Sandberg, Kamala Sankaram, Jeff Scott, Carlos Simon, Errollyn Wallen, and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, each song in the cycle received its world premiere in a shelter. The complete song cycle receives its world premiere at Carnegie Hall. Join outstanding musicians and NBC News’ Harry Smith to honor this vital work, presented in association with Carnegie Hall, in an evening of inspired music and a moderated Q&A session after the performance.
