Gustavo Dudamel by Stephan Rabold
Be dazzled by Rimsky-Korsakov’s and Tchaikovsky’s use of soaring melodies and sumptuous orchestral colors. Scheherazade unfolds in a series of vividly orchestrated scenes, including a seductive solo violin that depicts the title character, snarling brass that portrays a bloodthirsty sultan, a massive orchestral surge that represents a ship dashed on rocks, and more. Tchaikovsky’s symphony may not tell a literal story, but fate and doubts figure prominently, and he gives voice to all in a thrilling journey from darkness to triumph.
