As an artist-led collective, Decoda seeks to create a more compassionate and connected world through music—thoughtfully curating outstanding performances of live chamber music, facilitating creative community projects, and inspiring the next generation of musical artists to rethink and reimagine their role in society.

In the 2021–2022 season, Decoda returns to Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, performs the New York premiere of Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Mass for the Endangered at Princeton University and at Green-Wood Cemetery, and collaborates with poet Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz and the composers of ICEBERG New Music. The ensemble also makes its return to MODfest chamber music series at Vassar College.

Decoda embarks on partnerships with The Juilliard School, Ramapo College of New Jersey, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore, and Tianjin Juilliard School. Currently in its nineth season, the Decoda Chamber Music Festival, an immersive two-week summer festival, continues at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Decoda continues to deepen its commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in the performing arts. The ensemble is a proud founding member of the Cross-Country Chamber Consortium, which aims to increase diversity in modern chamber music. Music for Transformation, a collaboration with incarcerated musicians at Lee Correctional Institute in Bishopville, SC, has resulted in hundreds of original new musical works. Music for Transformation has been recognized by the White House, CNN, The Washington Post, and Huffington Post.

Decoda’s past engagements include performances at the Barbican Centre and Southbank Centre, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, WQXR, Mainly Mozart Festival, Bay Chamber Concerts, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Caramoor Music Festival, Carnegie Kids @ Suntory Hall, Programa de Educación Musical Fomento Cultural Banamex and Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Curtis Institute of Music, Yale School of Music, Chelsea Music Festival, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Sawdust, and more.

Decoda was founded in 2012 by musicians who first collaborated as members of Ensemble Connect. Its work as an ensemble has grown out of this collective training, which focused on developing skills as exemplary performers, dedicated teachers, and passionate advocates for music in communities around the world. As alums of Ensemble Connect and in recognition of its members’ ongoing success as artists, educators, and advocates for music, Decoda is the only independent ensemble to be recognized as an affiliate ensemble of Carnegie Hall.

Flutist, soprano, and sound artist Alice Teyssier strives to share lesser-known masterpieces and develop a rich and vibrant repertoire that reflects our era. She has appeared as a soloist with the San Diego Symphony, International Contemporary Ensemble, Talea Ensemble, the San Francisco New Music Players, Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, the 21st Century Consort, Bourbon Baroque, and Bach Collegium San Diego, amongst others. She is a regular guest to the Monday Evening Concerts series, where she has premiered numerous works—from Salvatore Sciarrino to Cassandra Miller.

She is a core member of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), with which she has toured North America, as well as to France, Brazil, Cuba, and Abu Dhabi. She has been a mainstay of the group’s residency at the Ojai Music Festival and Ensemble Evolution at the Banff Centre. With ICE, she has premiered new large-scale works by Wojtek Blecharz, Ann Cleare, Natacha Diels, Vijay Iyer, George E. Lewis, Nicole Mitchell, Sabrina Schroeder, Tyshawn Sorey, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, and Monte Weber, among many others. With Michael Weyandt and Bradley Scott Rosen, she composes and performs as The Atelier, a uniquely organized music-image-movement ensemble, which was featured on the 2016 Resonant Bodies Festival in New York.

In 2007, she performed in the US premiere of Olga Neuwirth’s Lost Highway, after the David Lynch film, at Miller Theater. She has since presented many modern operas, and continues to forge new ways of creating and developing the operatic stage through collaboration. She has been instrumental in creating roles in Ashley Fure’s Force of Things, previewed at the 2016 Darmstadt Summer Courses, and premiered at Peak Performances in New Jersey, and Clara Latham’s Talking Cure, presented in its premiere concert version at Roulette Intermedium in 2018.

Ms. Teyssier devotes much of her time in the educational and engagement realm. As a soloist and with ICE, she has given residencies for composers and performers of new music at Brown University, Harvard University, Stanford University, SUNY Buffalo, the University of Michigan, University of Huddersfield, and University of Leeds. She has made a mission of engaging younger children in the creative process; her work with OpenICE and EntICE has borne fruit with the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles, The People’s Music School, Usdan Summer Arts Camp, San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and UpBeat NYC.
