Beethoven and Clyne
OSL Chamber Music Series

Weill Recital Hall
Jon Manasse by Paul Goode | Anna Clyne by Christina Kernohan
This program features two of composer Anna Clyne’s recent works alongside Beethoven. Clyne’s Clarinet Quintet is an exploration of musical loops, based on Douglas Hofstadter’s novel I am a Strange Loop. Woman Holding a Balance was written to accompany Jyll Bradley’s film of the same name inspired by Vermeer’s paintings. Both works were commissioned by OSL and premiered as part of OSL’s Sounds & Stories virtual series. Written before his First Symphony, Beethoven’s Septet is almost symphonic in its rich, varied texture created by the combination of strings and woodwinds.
