Pianist and coach Anthony Manoli has worked with some of the leading opera companies in the world, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Opéra de Lausanne, and L’Opéra national du Rhin. In addition, his engagements include the Spoleto Festival in both Italy and the United States, Los Angeles Opera, Washington National Opera, and L’Opéra Français de New York. His other duties include prompting for Washington National Opera and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Spain. He has served on the summer faculties of Dolora Zajick’s Institute for Young Dramatic Voices, the Miami Music Festival, and the Highlands Opera Studio in Canada. Mr. Manoli was a fellowship coach at the Tanglewood Festival and has collaborated with conductors Leonard Slatkin, Seiji Ozawa, Claudio Abbado, Robert Shaw, Sir Andrew Davis, Richard Bonynge, and Sir Colin Davis. Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Mirella Freni, José Carreras, Rockwell Blake, Edita Gruberová, and Barbara Frittoli are several of the singers with whom he has worked.
Mr. Manoli has coached for the young artist programs of the Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, and Palm Beach Opera. More recently, he has coached for the Atelier lyrique at Opéra Montréal and Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Program. He has also worked for the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio and the New National Theatre’s Opera Studio in Tokyo, where he conducted a series of concerts. Mr. Manoli has been a guest faculty member at Dallas Opera’s Hart Institute for Women Conductors and was a visiting professor at the University of Montreal.
Mr. Manoli has been seen on the A&E channel in performance with mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick and on television and throughout Asia with soprano Shin Youngok. Other performances include concerts in the United States and at the Zurich Opera House with tenor Stephen Costello, appearances in Mexico with tenor David Lomelí, and frequent collaboration with soprano Sondra Radvanovsky in the United States, London, Canada, Mexico, Spain, France, and Argentina. He has served as an associate producer for recordings on the Telarc and Naxos labels, and he can be heard on the soundtrack for the Miramax film The Talented Mr. Ripley.
Mr. Manoli received his musical training at the New England Conservatory of Music and The Juilliard School, where he was a staff member. His teachers have included Patricia Zander and Herbert Stessin for piano studies, and Alberta Masiello for opera studies. He is a faculty member at the Mannes School of Music in New York City, where he lives and maintains an active coaching studio.
