Experience the luscious sound of The Met Orchestra outside the opera house. The ensemble, under the esteemed baton of conductor Daniele Rustioni in his Carnegie Hall debut, begins its 2022–2023 series at the Hall with a program of popular works by essential composers—a perfect entry point for newcomers that is sure to equally attract longtime fans. Hear Bartók’s enduringly popular Concerto for Orchestra, a riveting tour de force for the ensemble. Enjoy the rich bass-baritone of celebrated Met artist Ryan Speedo Green as he sings a gripping Mussorgsky song cycle, expertly orchestrated by Shostakovich. The program closes with music from Stravinsky’s timeless breakthrough The Firebird, a richly textured work that combines impeccable orchestration, Russian folk music, and evocative imagery into an eminently enjoyable whole.
