Over the last several years, the Hot Sardines have emerged from the Brooklyn neo-speakeasies where they got their start to make a global name for themselves by playing hot jazz as it was in the era when live music was king, bridging generations and captivating 21st-century audiences.

The group, led by frontwoman Elizabeth Bougerol and pianist Evan Palazzo, has been described as “potent and assured” (The New York Times) and “simply phenomenal” (The Times of London), spending more than a year on the Billboard jazz chart and receiving 60 million streams on Spotify in over 90 countries. They’ve been guests on Later … With Jools Holland, NPR’s Weekend Edition, CBS Saturday Morning, NPR’s Soundcheck, and WFUV; appeared at major festivals and venues that include the Newport Jazz Festival, Montreal International Jazz Festival, Toronto Jazz Festival, EFG London Jazz Festival, and Blue Note Tokyo; and have sold out shows at more than 400 venues worldwide. They’ve also performed their Boston Pops–debuted symphony show with orchestras throughout North America.

Their three major albums have landed on best-of lists in the jazz press (DownBeat, JazzTimes), but also crossed over to the mainstream, with Rolling Stone noting that “100-year-old jazz standards get reborn” in the hands of the Hot Sardines.

Alan Cumming is beyond eclectic. His most recent projects include creating a solo dance theater piece about the Scottish bard Robert Burns, touring two cabaret shows internationally, hosting a reality competition show, and recording a duet with a Gaelic rapper. His screen work ranges from arthouse to blockbuster, cult to mainstream. But his performances are always indelible, and some immortal.

Mr. Cumming is the author of six books, including a New York Times best-selling memoir. He co-owns his own eponymous cabaret bar, Club Cumming, a home for “all ages, all genders, all colors, all sexualities, where kindness is all, and anything could happen!”

He is a Tony- and Olivier-winning theater actor. He hosted the Tony Awards, which earned him an Emmy nomination. He has four honorary doctorates and over 40 awards for his humanitarian work, but as he says, “awards mean nothing!”
