Carnegie Hall Citywide: Gamelan Dharma Swara

Saturday, May 4, 2024 5 PM Brooklyn Museum
Gamelan Dharma Swara
Experience a “thrilling, mesmerizing, and powerful” (The New York Times) performance of Balinese gamelan music in this free Saturday afternoon event at the Brooklyn Museum. Founded in 1989 and based in Queens, Gamelan Dharma Swara is one of the preeminent gamelan ensembles in the US, whose musicians and dancers perform traditional repertoire alongside new works that explore the vast possibilities of gamelan, the distinctive Southeast Asian percussion orchestra. A communal setting such as this performance at the Brooklyn Museum—in which listeners can gather around the musicians and dancers—offers an especially profound experience for audiences.
