Concert for the Children and Youth of Ukraine

A Benefit for Direct Relief
Wednesday, October 23, 2024 7 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Christoph Eschenbach by Eric Brissaud, Anne-Sophie Mutter by Japan Art Association / Sankei Shimbun
Experience Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, known for the immortal “Ode to Joy”; beloved film music by John Williams; a poignant selection by Valentyn Silvestrov, Ukraine’s most renowned living composer; and more. Conducted by the great Christoph Eschenbach and anchored by members of Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the newly assembled Orchestra for Ukraine features extraordinary young professional artists selected to represent more than one dozen countries, each of them united in passion and purpose, an urgent shared desire for peace, and in solidarity with Ukraine’s right to self-determination as a sovereign nation. The evening also features world-renowned soloists, including violin virtuoso Anne-Sophie Mutter, plus the Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York and Oratorio Society of New York. Proceeds from this unique benefit performance—hosted by Liev Schreiber and presented in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, as well as the New York–based diplomatic institutions of numerous participating countries—support Direct Relief, a humanitarian aid nonprofit organization that provides urgently needed medical supplies to relief groups and families on the ground in Ukraine.
