Conductor Giovanna Riboli leads the Schola Cantorum Nicola Sala from the Conservatory of Music of Benevento, Italy, in a performance of the “Beneventan Chant” from the 7th and 8th centuries in Southern Italy. The program includes monodic liturgical Latin chants transcribed by Riboli directly from neumatic notation of manuscripts from 11th and 12th centuries, such as the “Exultet roll” and other pieces from the Mass and the offices of saints in the ancient Beneventan liturgy.
