Part of: Carnegie Hall Live on WQXR
In partnership with Tuskegee University and the Weill Music Institute, Gateways Music Festival is also hosting a free symposium that celebrates the legacy of composer William Levi Dawson. On Saturday, April 26 at 10 AM in Carnegie Hall’s Resnick Education Wing, performers, scholars, and audiences gather to explore Dawson’s impact on classical music, and the significance of his integration of Negro spirituals into concert-hall repertoire and the symphonic tradition.
