Jaap van Zweden by Dario Acosta, Bomsori Kim by Kyutai Shim / DG
Witness the exciting new artistic partnership between the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director Jaap van Zweden. In this performance, they pair two of the orchestral repertoire’s most beloved cornerstones—Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2 and Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor (featuring soloist Bomsori Kim)—with a piece by the extraordinary South Korean composer Dongshoon Shin, jointly commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and Bamberg Symphony. Titled Upon His Ghostly Solitude, Shin’s work is a feverish and forceful vision, inspired by Yeats and colored by homages to Berg and Gustav Mahler.
