Evgeny Kissin, Piano

Wednesday, May 13, 2026 8 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Evgeny Kissin by Phillip Andrukovich
Evgeny Kissin opens this recital in virtuosic fashion with Beethoven’s boldly innovative Piano Sonata No. 7 in D Major, Op. 10, No. 3, followed by a series of Chopin’s mazurkas. After his 2024 recital at the Hall, critics raved about Kissin’s “superb pianism—his dexterity, command of the nuances of color, and sheer volume (without thickness) of sound” (New York Classical Review), making particular note of Chopin interpretations that showcased “expressive freedom while outlining all the structural and formal details … [offering] the rare experience of hearing Chopin as composer and improviser simultaneously.” The program also features Robert Schumann’s Kreisleriana, a wildly inventive set of miniatures the composer considered to be among his finest; and Myaskovsky’s succinct and emotionally potent Piano Sonata No. 2.
