Jump to section:
How do I apply for the Music Educators Workshop?
Fill out our online application. You must either create or use a pre-existing Carnegie Hall account to complete the application. Applications typically open in March for the following school year and stay open until we have reached capacity or until early August. There is no application fee associated with the school year workshop.
What if I miss the application deadline?
If you miss the deadline, you can still join our waitlist by emailing MusicEducatorsWorkshop@carnegiehall.org.
What is the participation fee for the Music Educators Workshop?
There is no participation fee for the Music Educators Workshop. Selected teachers will receive an honorarium of up to $500 each depending upon attendance and successful completion of the program.
How does this program connect with the professional development programs offered by the New York City Department of Education?
This program has been created in consultation with the New York City Department of Education and supplements the annual Professional Development Series offered by the Office of Arts and Special Projects.
Do you offer credit hours for participation?
Yes, educators are eligible to receive up to 40 Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) hours after successful completion of the workshop. Educators will receive a certificate of participation to submit for the additional hours.
I work with a youth ensemble on a regular basis, but am not certified in music education. May I apply?
Absolutely! Our hope is that we will have a mix of trained music educators in need of artistic rejuvenation, as well as those working in the field with less formal training. We encourage applications from individuals who studied one instrument but find themselves teaching another instrument or a choir. Similarly, we welcome applications from professional musicians who have found second careers as teachers.
I have participated in the Music Educators Workshop in the past. Am I still eligible for this program?
While we give priority to new teachers, we welcome returning teachers as space allows.
What are the workshop dates?
Music Educators Workshop happens once a month on Saturdays. For a list of this school year’s dates, please visit the Music Educators Workshop school year program home page.
What if I cannot attend certain scheduled sessions throughout the year?
We understand that it’s hard to give up a Saturday throughout the busy school year! While we are flexible with unexpected absences, please try to commit to the full workshop schedule. If you know you will have to miss several dates, please reach out to MusicEducatorsWorkshop@carnegiehall.org so we can discuss other options for participation and open up a spot to someone on our waiting list.
