Women in Music

Our 2022–2023 season includes a focus on the vast artistic scope of women and people of marginalized genders in music.

Across a wide variety of Carnegie Hall presentations and partner events, we highlight the incredible artistry of recitalists, bandleaders, conductors, soloists, chamber groups, curators, and more—both onstage and off—today and throughout the Hall's history

2022–2023 Highlighted Artists

Visionary series curated by our Perspectives artists and Debs Creative Chair are centerpieces of each Carnegie Hall season. In 2022–2023, we are thrilled to hand these creative reins to three singular artists: Rhiannon Giddens, Mitsuko Uchida, and Claire Chase.

Rhiannon Giddens

Throughout her Perspectives series, Rhiannon Giddens sheds light on the shared history of a variety of performance traditions around the world, explores the complex history of Black influence in American music, and more.

Mitsuko Uchida

With the launch of her three-season Perspectives series, Mitsuko Uchida treats audiences to core repertoire, interpreted with versatility, vision, and depth.

Claire Chase

During her time as the Debs Creative Chair, Claire Chase presents the continuation of Density 2036, “one of the great musical undertakings of our time, a singular project by a singular artist” (The New York Times).

Iconic Women of Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall Icons celebrates women intrinsic to the founding and continued existence of the Hall and whose lives or careers are inextricably woven into the fabric of the Hall’s history.
