Tituss Burgess is an Emmy- and SAG-nominated actor, musician, and writer. He is quickly emerging as one of the entertainment industry’s most versatile and dynamic performers, with his work in television, film, and theater generating both critical and commercial acclaim. His new album, Saint Tituss, brings Burgess’s extraordinary musical, vocal, and songwriting talents to the forefront. The six-track project of original songs combines pop, R&B, gospel, and Broadway influences with stunningly skillful and undeniably present vocals. Led by the anthemic first single, “45” (which features Daniel J. Watts), Burgess fearlessly explores finding hope, love, and the beauty of human imperfection. Saint Tituss was released in July 2019 to critical acclaim, entering Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart at No. 16.
Burgess was first introduced to television audiences in Tina Fey’s Emmy-winning 30 Rock, quickly becoming a breakout star in the show’s fifth and sixth seasons. From there, he starred as the indelible Titus Andromedon in the Emmy-nominated Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt opposite Ellie Kemper. Over the course of the show’s four seasons, Burgess was nominated for four Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He was also awarded Best Actor at the 2015 Webby Awards and Best Comedy Supporting Actor at the 2015 Gold Derby Awards.
Burgess recently appeared in Netflix’s Dolemite Is My Name alongside Eddie Murphy, Keegan-Michael Key, Mike Epps, and Craig Robinson. His previous films include Netflix’s romantic comedy Set It Up alongside Taye Diggs, Lucy Liu, Glen Powell, and Zoey Deutch. He has also lent his voice to two major animated films: The Angry Birds Movie and Smurfs: The Lost Village.
A veteran of the stage, Burgess made his Broadway debut in 2005 as Eddie in Good Vibrations. He has since performed in many memorable Broadway roles, including Hal Miller in Jersey Boys, Sebastian the Crab in The Little Mermaid, and Nicely-Nicely Johnson in the 2009 revival of Guys and Dolls.
Burgess’s musical talent is also the driving force behind his recent acquisition of the rights to the beloved film The Preacher’s Wife. Currently in development, the movie-turned-musical will feature new music and lyrics by Burgess with an updated book by Azie Dungey.
