CARNEGIE HALL PRESENTS

Cancelled: Emanuel Ax, Piano

Thursday, May 14, 2020 8 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Hear how Beethoven’s early piano sonatas reveal the genius of a composer in full command of his creative powers at a young age. The three Op. 2 sonatas are quite different from each other, but share a wealth of ideas expressed in inventive keyboard writing. Sonata No. 1 is gripping in its drama, Sonata No. 2 puts virtuosity to the forefront, and Sonata No. 3 is sweeping in its grand scale and emotional power of its eloquent slow movement.
