Across the Americas, nature’s beauty is expressed in powerful music. Gabriella Smith’s Tumblebird Contrails finds inspiration in the flow of the Pacific Ocean and the sounds of its surrounding wildlife, while Ginastera’s Estancia also looks to the outdoors with references to gaucho ranch life in a ballet score enlivened by traditional Argentine tunes, propulsive rhythms, and vibrant color. There’s also a major premiere co-commissioned by Carnegie Hall: Andrew Norman’s Violin Concerto.
