Daniil Trifonov, Piano

Wednesday, December 7, 2022 8 PM Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage
Daniil Trifonov by Dario Acosta
Daniil Trifonov is a global phenomenon called “without question the most astounding pianist of our age” by London’s Times. His recital begins with a collection of short Tchaikovsky pieces that are delightful in their simplicity—an opening that cleverly juxtaposes much of the remaining concert, which is a spectacularly difficult program suitable for only the most capable pianists. Be amazed by a Robert Schumann piece dedicated to fellow virtuoso Liszt; a wild, almost transgressive Mozart fantasy that nevertheless highlights the composer’s structural command; Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit, which culminates in one of the repertory’s most impishly challenging yet beautiful movements; and, finally, a fitting conclusion found in the ecstasy of Scriabin’s Piano Sonata No. 5.
