Attacca Quartet by David Goddard
The Grammy Award–winning Attacca Quartet has been described as “close to epitomizing the string quartet ideal: four strikingly individual players with the ability to speak eloquently in one voice” (The Washington Post) and as “one of the most versatile and outstanding ensembles of the moment—a quartet for modern times” (The Nation). Following a standout series of Citywide concerts last summer, the ensemble now brings its gifts to beautiful Wave Hill in the Bronx.

The Grammy Award–winning Attacca Quartet, as described by The Nation, “lives in the present aesthetically, without rejecting the virtues of the musical past,” and it is this dexterity to glide from the music of the 18th through to the 21st century that place it as one of the most versatile and outstanding ensembles of the moment—a quartet for modern times.
Touring extensively to the United States, recent and upcoming highlights include performances as part of the New York Philharmonic’s Nightcap series and Lincoln Center’s White Light Festival (with Caroline Shaw), and further performances at the Miller Theatre (also with Shaw), The Phillips Collection, Austin Chamber Music Center, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and Trinity Church Wall Street, where they will perform the complete cycle of the Beethoven String Quartets. Attacca Quartet has also served as The Juilliard School’s graduate resident string quartet, the quartet in residence at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the ensemble-in-residence at Texas State University. Outside the US, recent performances include Gothenburg Concert Hall, MITO SettembreMusica in Italy, and the quartet's London debut at Kings Place and Oslo’s Vertravo Haydn Festival. Along with the recent tour to Central and South America, the ensemble will return to Europe for a tour of 10 concerts around Sweden and take part in the Prague String Festival and September Me Festival in the Netherlands.
Passionate advocates of contemporary repertoire, the ensemble’s latest recording, Orange, features works by Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Caroline Shaw. Greatly received by critics, Attacca Quartet won the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music / Small Ensemble Performance in recognition for their work on this album. Previous recordings include three critically acclaimed albums with Azica Records, including a disc of Michael Ippolito’s string quartets, and the complete works for string quartet by John Adams.
