The two-time Grammy Award–winning Attacca Quartet is recognized as one of the most versatile and outstanding ensembles of the moment—a true quartet for modern times. Gliding through traditional classical repertoire to electronica, video game music, and contemporary collaborations, it is one of the world’s most innovative and respected ensembles.
In 2021, the Attacca Quartet released two albums that embody its redefinition of what a string quartet can be. The first album, Real Life—featuring guest artists such as TOKiMONSTA, Daedalus, and Anne Müller—was followed by Of All Joys, which features works by Philip Glass and Arvo Pärt alongside music of the Renaissance. Its 2019 release Orange, in collaboration with Caroline Shaw, won the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music / Small Ensemble Performance, with their follow-up album, Evergreen, winning the 2023 award in the same category.
The quartet continues to perform in the world’s best venues and at leading festivals. Notable highlights include engagements at Lincoln Center, Miller Theatre, and Carnegie Hall in New York; The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC; Chamber Music Detroit; Chamber Music Austin; Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston; Ojai Festival; BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!; and Big Ears Festival in Knoxville. Outside the US, performance venues include the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall and Kings Place in London, Vertavo Haydn Festival in Oslo, Gothenburg Concert Hall, MITO Settembre Musica in Italy, Sociedad Filarmónica de Bilbao, String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam, Prague Sounds, Thüringer Bachwochen, Sala São Paulo, Fundación Beethoven in Chile, National Theatre of Panama, and Teatro Mayor in Bogotá. The quartet has also soloed with the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra in Japan, Barcelona Symphony Orchestra at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, and National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia in Bogotá.
In addition to the Attacca Quartet’s traditional concert stage work, it was the first to collaborate with Billie Eilish and FINNEAS on their recent album and also performed with the duo on Saturday Night Live. The quartet can be heard on the soundtrack for the Ken Burns documentary Leonardo da Vinci (music by Caroline Shaw) and the soundtrack for the film We Grown Now (directed by Minhal Baig with music by Jay Wadley). In the 2024–2025 season, the Attacca Quartet performs at Carnegie Hall, Nashville’s Chamber Music City, and Richmond’s Belvedere Series, and leads a residency at Montclair State University. Outside the US, the quartet performs at festivals and with ensembles that include Vancouver’s Music in the Morning, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Norwegian Opera & Ballet, and La Biennale di Venezia. The season also includes commissions by David Lang and Gabriela Ortiz.
The founding members of the Attacca Quartet met while studying at The Juilliard School in the early 2000s and made their professional debut at Carnegie Hall in 2003. Other accolades include first prize at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa, Top Prize and Listeners’ Choice award at the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, and grand prize at the 60th annual Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition.
