Wonder Women

Christina Pluhar by Michal Nowak
L’Arpeggiata is a “hip, international early-music ensemble” (Opera News) led by lutenist and “Renaissance wonder woman” Christina Pluhar (Gramophone). Enlivened by the ensemble’s trademark improvisatory style, this performance celebrates Italian women composers of the 17th century, including groundbreaking figures like Barbara Strozzi and Francesca Caccini. Wonder Women pays homage to colorful characters (heroines, saints, witches, supernatural figures, and mere mortals) found in traditional Italian and Latin American songs. This concert performance features the same extraordinary singers from the ensemble’s recording, for whom each song was personally selected.
