Ramón Carrero-Martínez

Venezuelan violist Ramón Carrero-Martínez has won prizes in numerous competitions in the US, Italy, Australia, Japan, and Venezuela, including Grand Prize at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, Second Prize in the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, and Third Prize in the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition and Festa. He has toured with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, premiered James Ra’s Concerto for Three Violas with the New York Classical Players, was a semifinalist in the senior division of the 2023 Sphinx Competition, and performed Pēteris Vasks’s Viola Concerto with the Classical Music Institute Orchestra of San Antonio.

A versatile soloist, chamber musician, and orchestra player, he has performed with the Terra String Quartet, Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players, Exponential Ensemble, and Mark Morris Dance Group, as well as New York City Ballet, Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, New York Classical Players, Experiential Orchestra, and Riverside Symphony, among many others.

Ramón was a member of the celebrated Venezuelan national system of youth orchestras, “El Sistema,” and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Daniel Avshalomov. In addition to his musical activities, he enjoys cooking, playing chess, and is an incurable salsa dancer. As part of his fellowship with Ensemble Connect, Ramón teaches at Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music.
