Sae Hashimoto is an exhilarating percussionist based in New York City. Active in the orchestral field and a rising luminary of the avant-garde scene, her unique performances attract audiences from a wide variety of genres. She has served as guest timpanist with the New York Philharmonic, as well as performing off-stage at the Metropolitan Opera. She is currently the principal timpanist of the New Jersey–based orchestra Symphony in C.

Sae is a passionate advocate for contemporary music. In 2014, she gave the world premiere of Robin de Raaff’s Percussion Concerto. In April 2017, she premiered two works by John Zorn for solo vibraphone and improvised rhythm section. Her performance of these pieces is featured on The Interpretation of Dreams, released by Tzadik. She also has performed his music at venues across the country, including National Sawdust, Boston’s Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the Village Vanguard.

Sae received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, with the support of the Kovner Fellowship. She studied with Markus Rhoten and Daniel Druckman of the New York Philharmonic. As part of her fellowship with Ensemble Connect, Sae teaches at Wadleigh Secondary School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Manhattan.
