Joanne Kang

Piano

Pianist and educator Joanne Kang began her studies with pianist Nikolai Evrov in Sydney, Australia. By 2005, she obtained an associate and licentiate diploma, and a fellowship in music diploma. As a prolific prizewinner of national and international competitions and scholarships, Joanne enjoys a career performing solo and chamber recitals, and collaborating with numerous organizations in Australia and the United States.

Joanne has studied with Phillip Kawin at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM), where she received bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and won the Harold and Helene Schonberg Pianist Scholarship and International Advisory Board Scholarship. In 2015, she was awarded the Manhattan School of Music Harold Bauer Award in recognition of outstanding accomplishment, cooperation, and promise.

Joanne is currently a doctoral candidate at MSM, following her passion for music education and pedagogy. As a teaching fellow, she leads undergraduate and graduate required piano, keyboard skills classes, and elective lessons. As part of her fellowship with Ensemble Connect, Joanne teaches at Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn.
